TALK TO THE DADDY

Hello. Come on in. The daddy writes about current events, literature, music and, once in a while, drops something on you from back in the day to make you pause and ponder, stop and stare, and begin to wonder. Who knows? You may start to pace the floor, shake your head from side to side, then fall down on bended knees in a praying position and cry, "Lawd, have mercy! What is this world coming to?" Check yourself! But this blog is NOT about the daddy. It's about you: your boos, your fam, your hood, your country...our hopes and dreams of a better tomorrow. So let's make a pact: the daddy will put it on the track if you'll chase it down and hit him back. Together, we can definitely take it to another level. Shall we?"

Do you have some principles or laws to guide you in 2009?

Listen up. The daddy follows the Nguzo Saba principles, the seven principles of Kwanzaa on a daily basis. But today, the daddy is also feeling the 9 pledges recently published by Truth at his blog called The Enclave. They sound good; and the daddy is looking for a way to incorporate them and give him more specific direction for 2009.

Now, the daddy ain't preaching, but he is wondering: Do you have some principle(s), pledge(s) or laws to guide you in 2009?

Meanwhile, check these out:

"1. I pledge that from this day forward I will strive to love my brother as I love myself.

2. I, from this day forward, will strive to improve myself spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically and economically for the benefit of myself, my family and my people.

3. I pledge that I will strive to build business, build houses, build hospitals, build factories and enter into international trade for the good of myself, my family and my people."

For the rest of the 9 pledges, check out The Enclave at http://enclave-lion.blogspot.com/.
The daddy's trying to tell ya: the brotha kicks truth like Einstein at the chalkboard, Krugman at Harvard, Tony Soprano at Waste Management, Sista Soldier on the mike.

Rainywalker: Just so you know, I cannot comment on your blog. I keep getting this letter verification stuff. At any rate, I just wanted to tell you that your recent blog on Benjamin Banneker and how he built it from memory was amazing.

Folks, check out this post at Rainywalker's blog. You will not be disappointed.

These are great principles to live by and you don't have to be African-American or celebrate Kwanzaa.

Some people follow the 10 Commandments.

I don't know anymore if I have a set of priniciples, per se, to follow. I just try to treat people fairly and always with an eye focused on justice. Be kind and don't cheat.

I found your blog thru a new friend. Just want to say how much I enjoy your profiles of outstanding folks.

I had the honor to attend Arizona State University with Pat Tillman and followed his football career. I was very saddened by his death and the subsequent military coverup that followed. My prayers are ever with his family.

He is a true hero.

Hello there!

Thanks for sharing this and for mentioning that blog! I will stop by and check it out!

If there are any Christians who think that living by the ten commandments MEANS that they are living just like Christ, they should think again. The ten commandments were not intended to be the summation of Christian living.

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Christopher: All true.

Gypsy: When I think of how the military tried to use Tillman's death for pr, lied to his family and has yet to apologize to her, I feel sad and later start to feel angry. I love football; and I came to know Tillman through football. He was trusted by his team members. And I trusted him when he gave up millions to go fight for his country. I grieved when he died. But I got pained even more deeply when I found out how the military treated his family...I'll look for updates, and I'll publish them on my blog. Come back and check to see if I got it right. Blessings.

I love these principles McDaddy, they are great for keeping spiritually on track.

You know, you can't keep what you have unless you give it away!

I'm going to go check out the rest of them at the enclave.

Thanks McDaddy!

I like the whole list of principles McDaddy, and I know many folks need to be reminded of the whole list, just because.

For me, the first three are targets for me to strive for, because I have always followed numbers 4 thru 9.

I have been feeling much better then when I commented a while back, I am letting a lot of that old garbage go, I can't change what has happened to me in the past either.

I think that the principles are great! Although, they are probably not sufficient, in and of themselves. People are very social animals, and I think that it will take leaders from within to inspire following some principles. It's very hard to improve oneself spiritually, physically, morally, etc. if one is hungry, needing to fight to stay physically safe, or around others who harm their psyche / identity. Not to mention the complications of first trying to learn to live without chemicals that numb one up to the pain in one's life.
But, this is a very positive start that I applaud.

Thanks all for your comments. Now, I'm going to ponder how I can use these in working with youth.

Hey MacDaddy! I think this is an excellent subject to discuss with the youth. Let us know how that goes.

Have a great week!

Daddy, I can go along with Sista Soldier on the mike, but Tony Soprano at Waste Management?

Daddy,
I get confused real easy. Too much information to sort through just bogs down my ADD brain and paralyses me, so I keep it all as simple as possible. . . for me, the only principle I have to follow is: Do the next right thing.
If I don't know what that is, I ask somebody, but 99% of the time it's pretty easy to figure out.
Any time of the day or night no matter what the situation, I just try and do the next right thing.
